EduRide: An Intelligent IoT-Based College Bus Management Platform with GPS Tracking and RFID Authentication

Abstract:

College bus transport still runs largely on paper logs, driver memory, and parents calling each other to Figure out where the bus is. EduRide replaces that with a platform that integrates GPS tracking, RFID-based student authentication, cloud-stored records, and automated hardware into a single working system. Each bus carries an ESP32 wired to an RC522 RFID reader and a NEO-6M GPS module. When a student taps their card, the system checks fees instantly; if the student is cleared, a servo opens the door, no driver needed. Attendance, location, and fee data all go straight to Firebase or MongoDB, keeping the record complete whether the network is fast or slow. The platform organises everything around four commitments: constant bus visibility, self-attending attendance, fee checks before boarding, and immediate parent alerts, all delivered through interfaces tailored to each user's actual job. Testing showed 99% positional accuracy from GPS, 98% reliability from RFID scans, and boarding notifications reaching parents in under two seconds. Concurrency testing held steady at 500 users without performance loss. The result is a bus route that institutions can actually manage, and families can actually trust.
